French New Wave

Originating in the late 1950s and 1960s, French New Wave was an influential stage of the cinematic world due to the heated political and activist climate, hence the name, New Wave. It is most recognizable by obviously the french but also by the risqué nature it possesses, meant to challenge authority and social norms. It also has characteristics of glamor and vibrancy that made it stand out especially at its time, post War. This is likely the reason why it is still so relevant today and why it has influence in films now. It was meant to characterize and document rawness of its characters while also becoming a "break" for its audiences, meaning, after the war and in the current time people wanted to leave reality. Although Sci-Fi had yet to be created in the mainstream, French New Wave was the pioneer of escapism in film which is truly its most significant influence on modern day film.
